COTTAGE GROVE, Minnesota - Tyler Kennedy scored the game winning touchdown in overtime, a ten-yard run on the option pitch from R.C. Kilgore, as the Park of Cottage Grove Wolfpack defeated Mounds View by a final score of 21-14.
Mounds View opened the scoring in the first quarter with an Eric McKay 5-yard run to give the Mustangs a 7-0 lead, but the Wolfpack marched back down the field to score when Kilgore connected with J.C. Burrell from 18 yards out to tie the game at 7-7. Then, in the second quarter, Park took it's first lead on a nine-yard touchdown scamper from Nick Alverson to give the Wolfpack a 14-7 lead. Mounds View re-tied the score before halftime with an Andy Osborne 14-yard run, and the game was tied at the half, 14-14.
In the second half, the two teams played defensive ball, with both teams having opportunities to score, but neither of them able to. In fact, both teams missed makeable field goal attempts in the fourth quarter that would have won the game for either team.
In the overtime, Park got the ball first, and on 2nd-and-goal from the 10 yard line, Kilgore appeared to be stopped at the 5 yard line on an option play before making a last second pitch to a wide-open Tyler Kennedy, who walked into the end zone for the touchdown; with the extra point, it became 21-14. Mounds View then had the chance to tie, but after no gain on the first two plays, a sack by Park linebacker Andrew Thomas pushed the ball back to the 20 yard line. Then, on 4th and goal, Mustang quarterback David Freed's pass fell incomplete in the end zone, ending the ball game.
